Pupils, staff and families at Seend Primary School have celebrated the opening of their newly transformed school library, which has been reimagined with an inspiring “Woodland Wonderland” theme.
The primary school, which is part of The White Horse Federation, chose the woodland theme to provide a calm and inspiring space where children can explore books, develop their literacy skills and use their imaginations.
The new space gives the impression of an enchanted forest and includes paintings of towering trees and animals hidden throughout the room, as well as cosy reading nooks designed to nurture a lifelong love of reading.
The library transformation was made possible through funding from the school’s dedicated PTA and the local church, alongside money raised by the pupils themselves during a sponsored walk.
The artwork was painted by a former teacher at the school, Natalie Johnson.
Natalie Johnson, former teacher at Seend Primary School, said:
“I was excited by the opportunity to return to Seend to design and paint the new library. Having previously taught here, this project felt especially meaningful to me. The mural celebrates the rural setting of the school while paying homage to the class names and history. I hope the space inspires pupils to see reading as an adventure and to feel that this library belongs to them!”
Holly Chivers, Assistant Headteacher at Seend Primary School, said:
“This library is more than just a place to read. It represents what can be achieved when a community comes together.
“Our children are so proud knowing they helped create this wonderful space, and Natalie’s connection to the school makes this even more meaningful.”
Emma Hembury, Headteacher at Seend Primary School, said:
“This mural beautifully captures our vision and the unique light each child brings to our school.
“We are extremely grateful to the PTA, the church community, Natalie Johnson, and especially our pupils, whose sponsored walk efforts helped bring this dream to life.”
The official opening celebration took place on World Book Day, 5th March, with families and community members invited to view the new space and share in the achievement.
Seend Primary School would love to welcome new families. If you would like to book a tour or find out more, please do get in touch.
